Is this the 21st century version of electroshock therapy and lobotomy? Why is a drug rehab facility taking someone off of street drugs and putting him on pharmaceutical drugs?

  • Doctors prescribes antipsychotics to aggressive children and adolescents all the time. It is a common and accepted practice among doctors who treat children. Just because they call them antipsychotics does not mean that they are only for psychosis. If it makes you feel any better you can call them neuroleptics. These drugs are not anything like electroshock and lobotomies. For one thing electroshock still goes on all the time and it treats depression. Lobotomies destroy a section of your brain and leaves you devoid of personality and emotions. These drugs that you mentioned are relatively safe and effective, If you do not agree with the course of prescribed treatment and you are a legal guardian you can always get a second opinion

Often times those kids could very well be acting like, well, normal and healthy kids and there is no use to diagnose them.
