What kind of activities are there, usually, to do in drug rehab centers?
October 17, 2008 - I have an old friend who has admitted himself into drug rehab for cocaine. I'm just curious as of to what kind of things they are able to do while they are in rehab. Like, what are ALL the rules behind it?
- I think there allowed cigarettes..Evry place is different with there own set of rules. U should check with the clinic on exactly whats allowed
Ok first off the rules suck! but addicts need rules, and regulations. They wake up in the morning shower, get ready, and have b-fast. after that they get ready for chores, (sucks) then they have class from 9am-5pm with breaks in between. they learn about the disease version of what they claim the client has. Then more group and then some more. and on weekends they do more chores and have family time on Sundays. Rehabs are a big money maker and they are all B-S! I have been to dozens of them and they use a lot of attack therapy, Which is not healthy, Its makes people want to use more drugs when the get out. I have been clean and sober for 2 years longest in 20 years ! first and I got a life coach, a personal trainer, went to accupuncture 1x a week, got off the pills the doctors at rehab gave me and started to meditate and eat healthy. now i can say I am cured and don't have urges to use I even gave up smoking and coffee this year its really amazing what happens when you take the steps I took. No more AA meetings or 12 steps that was created 75 years ago, they need a new way to help people these days nobody uses anything from the 1930's anymore why should we use a technique to help people other come a deadly illness like addiction? The success rate for AA NA and the 12 steps is 3 % ! ! ! ! hey if nothing changes nothing changes right? go figure. I wish you well and your friend too, on this journey to get better GOOD LUCK!!
It varies from state to state, as well as region to region, and also depends on if insurance is covering it or not. In-patient vs. out-patient rehab programs also have varying rules. In general, there will be individual as well as group counseling, along with a push to continue going to AA, NA, or similar meetings after you "graduate" or complete treatment. If it is in-patient, the main required things are the counseling, and there will be other activities available: there is usually a game room and a tv room. Some centers have arts and crafts, art therapy, or art supplies available. There will be coffee everywhere. Most people trade their drug or alcohol addiction for a coffee addiction, which is more socially acceptable and causes way fewer issues. There is a long list of what you can not do. Depending on the place and the program, you may or may not be allowed to smoke. There may be visitors allowed, or not, or sometimes allowed after a certain amount of time. There are consequences if you don't follow the rules, up to and including being kicked out, or "failing" the program. You really would have to research the individual center. Most places have on-line sites that can give you a better idea.
